The United Church of Canada Foundation is looking for volunteers for a number of leadership roles on Committees and the Board of Directors.
Each role requires certain skills and the Foundation seeks to ensure that our volunteers are diverse in terms of geography, expertise, and identity.

Scholarship and Academic Awards Committee
The Scholarship and Academic Awards Committee serves an important function; reviewing the scholarship and bursary requests that the Foundation receives. The scholarship round happens annually from January 15- March 15 with the committee meeting (typically virtually) in early April to discuss and make their recommendations.

Audit Committee
The Audit Committee serves an important oversight function of the Foundation. The committee oversees all material aspects of the Foundation’s financial reporting, financial controls, and audit functions. This is an essential position to ensure lasting trust between the Foundation and our donors. Investment Committee
The Investment Committee is responsible to the Foundation’s Board of Directors and shall monitor, evaluate and make recommendations to the Board with respect to all investments, including both short-term and long-term investments (“Investments”). The Committee shall also consider such other matters delegated to the Committee by the Board. Governance & Nominations Committee
The Committee shall assist the Board in its oversight role with respect to:
- The development of the Foundation’s corporate governance policies, practices, and processes.
- The effectiveness of the Board and its Committees.
- The recruitment of qualified individuals to serve on the Board and its committees.

Board of Directors
The importance of the leadership exercised by the Board of Directors cannot be understated. It is crucial that the Board of directors provide knowledgeable, thoughtful and consistent direction for the governance of the Foundation. To that end, the Foundation’s Board will, to the best of their ability, exercise due diligence in carrying out the following responsibilities:
- Be informed of the Foundation’s incorporation articles, bylaws, mission, and policies.
- Be informed of Board activities, and trends in stewardship or philanthropy within The United Church and the broader community.
- Act as ambassadors for the Foundation in their communities.
- Exercise the care, diligence and skill that a prudent person would show in similar circumstances.
- Be well prepared for and attend Board meetings and serve on committees as appropriate, and participate in the general work of the Board.
- Respectfully offer their knowledge and opinions on issues under discussion.
- Allow and respect the voicing of conflicting opinions.
- Maintain solidarity with other directors in support of a decision that has been made.
- Ask directors to review a decision where the Board acted without full information.
- Participate in regular reviews of the Board’s effectiveness.
- Contribute, when appropriate, to the work of the Governance Committee of the Board including suggesting potential board and committee members.
- Financially support the Foundation commensurate with their means.
- In collaboration with the General Council Office and in harmony with Human Resource Policies, recruit, set the compensation package, orient, and evaluate the most senior staff position.
- Participate in fund raising tasks up to their comfort levels including making thank you calls to donors.
