Guest Blog: Witnessing Mission and Service in Action
In this guest blog, the Foundation invites our colleague Lindsay Glennie to share how learning from Mission and Service partners has helped draw her closer to the sacred work they do.
A Powerful Connection
I’ve written many Mission and Service stories over the years. I’ve tried to do justice to the incredible work our partners are doing, but nothing prepared me for what it would feel like to actually meet them. What it would feel like to sit across from someone I’d only known through an email or a Zoom call. To hear their voice in person and see their eyes light up when they talk about their community. To witness the heartbreak, the laughter, the hope, all of it, up close.
Even when the connection is over a screen or phone line, it’s powerful. Every conversation stays with me. Because these are not just programs. These are lifelines. Acts of love. Bold responses to deep needs. Our partners aren’t just doing good work, they’re doing sacred work. They anticipate what their communities need and somehow, with limited resources and endless heart, they make it happen. And when circumstances shift, they shift too, with grace and grit.
Full of Love
Each program I’ve encountered, whether focused on food security, climate resilience, education, safety, or belonging, is ultimately woven with the same thread: reconnecting people with a sense of community. No matter what’s happening in the world, our partners find ways to remind people that they are not alone. They create spaces where neighbours can gather, share stories, and feel grounded. Where hope can take root, even in difficult soil.
Getting to know our partners, whether face to face or through a screen, has changed me. It’s deepened my belief in what Mission and Service makes possible. And it’s reminded me that behind every story is a beating heart, full of love. I am filled with gratitude.
