Pride Month Webinar Replay
Did you catch our webinar celebrating Pride Month, Works in Action: Empowering 2SLGBTQIA+ Communities? We had one of the highest registrations ever for one of our webinars! Our engaging panel inspired us with their stories, passion and hope, supported by the United Church of Canada Foundation. If you missed it, or want to watch again, we’ve got the webinar replay for you!
We learned how these groups use support from the Foundation to create safe, joyful spaces where folks can feel welcome and encouraged to live authentically in God’s love.
Our panel featured 3 amazing ministries, all past grant recipients:
- Shaun Fryday and Patricia Neves, St. Andrew’s United Church (Halifax, NS) – PRIDE PLACE Round Table
- Ally Phillips, Silver Spire United Church (St. Catherine’s, ON) – Queer Kid Bible Camp
- David Hawkins, West Island LGBTQ2+ Centre (Beaconsfield, QC) – LGBTQIA Migrant and Refugee Support Program
Click on the project name to learn more. We are so grateful to them for sharing their projects, learnings, and experience working with the Foundation. Also, a BIG thank you to Friend of the Foundation David Hallman for moderating the discussion.

Learning from these Radically Welcoming Minstries
When asked about the impact of Queer Kid Bible Camp, Ally Phillips asked us to consider the trauma of those looking for a new spiritual home:
“[W]hen we’re talking about folks who, maybe not in our buildings, but in other buildings, or in the larger Christian culture have been told that who they are is sinful or wrong… how are we going to negate that? How are we going to have room for the joy and for the sorrow of that?”.

Finally, former Rowntree scholar (and newly elected member of GCE) Katherine Brittain has asked us to share news of the upcoming Queer Family Retreat at Naramata Centre. Participants will connect with one another, with Creator, with the Land and with themselves. Attendees will celebrate time as community with values of belonging, justice and love– just as we are, beautifully and wonderfully made by God.
