Scholarship Applications due soon
There is one month left to apply to the Foundation’s various academic award opportunities for United Church of Canada ministers, ministry students, and lay people. Applications are due March 15, 2022.
Today, we will highlight two of our several scholarships that are open to applications now: the W. Norman McLeod Scholarship, and the Clifford Elliott Spirit of Saskatchewan Ministry Award.
The W. Norman McLeod Trust Fund was established in 1972 with the intent to constitute a trust fund for the promotion, advancement and encouragement of theological education. The W. Norman McLeod Scholarship is available to ordained ministers in the United Church of Canada for post-graduate study with consideration for current special needs of the Church, such as leadership in ethnic ministries, rural ministries or women in ministry.
Over the past decade, the W. Norman McLeod Trust Fund has awarded more than $100,000 to United Church ministers who have furthered their studies in an effort to be more effective leaders in our congregations. We are excited to help support our ordained ministers in their studies and efforts to better serve our congregations.
The Clifford Elliott Spirit of Saskatchewan Ministry Trust Fund was established in 2006 in memory of Clifford Elliott, a native of Saskatchewan and an ordained United Church minister. Cliff believed that the Saskatchewan values of co-operation, economic justice, and respect for the land and for its peoples have a universal application and enliven the ministry of the Church wherever they are embraced.
The Clifford Elliott Spirit of Saskatchewan Ministry Award provides financial support to United Church of Canada ministry personnel or laypersons who have completed an M.Div. degree (or equivalent) and who intend to pursue graduate theological studies for Th.D, Ph.D, or D.Min. degrees.
Recipients of the Clifford Elliott Spirit of Saskatchewan Ministry Award are scholars who aspire to impact the entire church, strengthening learning opportunities for others, and foster local communities of faith mission.
These awards and others – including the McGeachy Senior Scholarship, the Davidson Award, and the Anna Jentzsch-Bill Endowment Bursary – are accepting applications until March 15, 2022.
