Upcoming Webinar – Cultivating Theological Leadership
Join us on Thursday, September 14th, at 12:00 PM EST / 9:00 AM PST for our first webinar of the season, Cultivating Theological Leadership, presented by the United Church of Canada Foundation.
This one-hour virtual panel discussion will highlight the importance of supporting theological education, the vital role played by scholars and educators in fostering faith-seeking understanding, and the scholarship opportunities offered by the Foundation. Don’t miss this opportunity— registration for this event is free!
Our passionate and inspiring panel will include:
The Rev. Dr. Michelle Voss
- Michelle’s ministry setting is Emmanuel College in the Toronto School of Theology, where she is professor of theology. From 2018-2021 she was also the first woman in the school’s 90-year history to lead the institution as Principal.
The Rev Dr. Jennifer Janzen-Ball
- Jennifer currently lives in Saskatoon, Treaty 6 territory and the Homeland of the Métis. Her doctoral work examined the concept of the common good through a critical ecofeminist lens. She is passionate about theological education that transforms and engages people and communities in the crucial justice issues facing us.
The Rev. Samuel P. Grottenberg
- Sam is an ordained minister in The United Church of Canada and a PhD candidate in New Testament studies at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. His dissertation focusses on the early use of Jesus tradition material in the composition of the Catholic Epistles and he is deeply grateful for the support he has received for his research from the Foundation.
The Rev. Dr. A. H. Harry Oussoren will moderate the discussion
- Holding four graduate degrees (MDiv, MA, MEd, ThD) earned at universities in Hamburg, Toronto, and Geneva, education played a key role in equipping Harry for more than 50 years of ministry. Harry is former General Council staff and is a valued member of the Foundation’s Scholarships and Academic Awards Sub-Committee.
Money is the greatest barrier to United Church people pursuing theological leadership roles.
The Foundation is able to offer various academic award and scholarship opportunities thanks to generous people like you who believe that academic study and education is important to the present and future of our beloved United Church.
This panel is being presented as part of our Supporting Theological Leadership initiative which will strengthen the Foundation’s capacity to support talented scholars. Though the webinar is free, you can donate to the campaign as part of your registration. Your gift will enable us to provide more— and more meaningful— financial support to those who need it. Thank you!
